Welcome to the Clarity Project
In Europe, climate education tends to focus on teaching complex scientific facts that pose existential threats, without adequate consideration for the learners’ emotional capacities. Besides, the inner competences needed for collective action to address today’s polycrisis lack attention. This situation contributes to rising levels of stress and anxiety in children, youth, and teachers, with devastating societal impacts. A radical shift in primary, secondary and higher education, as well as in teacher and educator training, is urgently needed to foster planetary health and wellbeing. We are working on this shift together with European educators and experts.
The main results that we will produce include:
Learning Framework
Based on our research and consultations, we will adapt and operationalise the GreenComp Framework to a “transformative climate resilience education framework for children and youth” providing clear guidance for educators on pedagogical approaches to GreenComp suitable for young learners, considering climate anxiety.
Policy Brief
The results of the research and framework formulation will inform a policy brief targeting Education Policy Stakeholders, synthesising how to integrate the adapted framework into policy and school curricula. The focus will be on sensitising and training educators concerning climate-anxiety and fostering transformation.
Toolbox
The transformative climate resilience education toolbox turns the adapted framework into a comprehensive toolbox that educators can directly use in their teaching. The toolbox will cover the knowledge that needs to be acquired, the tools that can be mobilised with and/or by the younger generation, as well as the skills that children and youth need to build, according to a trauma-informed approach.
Learning Materials
An online self-paced course for educators will ensure that educators have the opportunity to build their transformative skills and competencies before teaching their learners. It will contribute to the continuous professional development of educators by building capacities for innovative and competence-based teaching.
